Announcements for the month

Grab a postcard and share a quick note about your summer internship or adventure

Heading out for a summer internship? We want to hear about it! Stop by OAS (Towne 109) to pick up a postcard and fill it out while you’re away, sharing where you are, what you’re working on, and what you’re most excited to learn. Your story could be featured in upcoming communications and help showcase the incredible experiences of Penn Engineering students. It’s quick, easy, and a great way to represent your work – wherever the summer takes you.

Registrar Reminders

-Degree Conferral

Graduating students can view the diploma checklist from OUR here. Students can view their degree(s) awarded and grades on their unofficial transcripts via Path@Penn. Degree conferral can be seen under the Degree Awarded section on the unofficial transcripts. Degrees will start to be awarded today, May 18. The process takes time for all grades to post, program, and school review, and final OUR processing. We appreciate your patience.

-Letters and Verifications

The Office of the University Registrar (OUR) will provide standard enrollment verification letters and degree verification letters, and can complete some document verification processing as well. Full details and instructions can be found here. Degree verification letters, including those required for H1-B visa applications, will not be processed until the degree has been awarded.

-EAS 8960: Professional Development

Second year master’s students planning on enrolling in EAS 8960 must request their program’s section to enroll in. Please look for your Program Director’s name as the faculty member teaching the course.

Career & Networking

How to Get the Job You Want, Not the Job You Have

Are you completing your master’s degree to change careers or advance in your current one? Then you’ll need to think carefully about how you present your degree and previous work experience to future employers. In today’s competitive job market, mid- and senior-level professionals are competing for a smaller number of open positions. Other candidates will have similar qualifications and extensive experience — just like you. Your master’s degree is valuable, but it will not speak for itself. You will need to be strategic and have a clear plan for how to use it effectively as you move forward in your career.
Join Beyond Graduate School for this webinar on how to get the job you want after completing your master’s degree. Whether you are looking to move to a new company or a new career field, you will learn what helps experienced candidates stand out to employers. This webinar is designed for master’s students with 5 or more years of professional experience who are wondering:
How do I strategically position my master’s degree to help me change careers or jobs?
How do I leverage my previous work experience when changing careers or jobs?
How do I leverage my network when changing careers or jobs?
The webinar will be held via Zoom webinar and will be recorded. Advanced registration is required.

How to Build a Professional Network in a New Career Field

Changing careers is challenging. One of the biggest difficulties career changers face is that they do not have an existing network in their new field. The people you worked with before may not be able to help you move into a new industry — and it can be hard to know where to start building new connections. As a career changer completing your master’s degree to move into a new career field, building a professional network is one of the most important steps you can take. A strong network in your new field can help you learn about job opportunities, get advice from people already working in that field, and increase your chances of being considered for a position in a new industry.

Join Beyond Graduate School for this webinar designed specifically for career changers who are completing a master’s degree to enter a new profession. This webinar is designed for master’s students from all academic disciplines who are wondering:

Is networking really that important for me, even with my master’s and previous professional experience?
How do I start building a network in a career field where I have no existing connections?
What do I say to people when I am new to a field and do not have relevant experience yet?

The webinar will be held via Zoom webinar and will be recorded. Advanced registration is required.
